Shishiliza Reveals Why SA Hip Hop Needs New Artists. Despite artists dropping music day in and day out, the assumption that SA hip hop is dead persists. There is more to the game than meets the eye, and the fact that there are too many familiar faces in the game has prompted promoters to continue booking performances with the same rappers.

Shishiliza did not mince words when he stated on Twitter that South African hip hop is in desperate need of new rappers. The legendary producer has justified music organizers for booking the same artists for performances since the game lacks a diverse choice of rappers.

“We desperately need a new wave of artists in the game.. all these lineups are the same 😭 can’t even blame promoters cos what choice do they have.” Tweeted Shishiliza.

Shishiliza‘s stance prompted other SA hip-hop fans to protest that promoters only book well-equipped performers, despite the fact that there are many rappers on the internet who are not well-funded.

“No, my brother. You know it’s not as simple as that. Firstly, money. Secondly, access. Thirdly, especially as a new independent upcoming artist, if you don’t have a team and solid support, to do everything 1 man is draining in all aspects. Then the gatekeeping. It ain’t the artist.” Reads the tweet.

The Sondela hitmaker did not agree with the views after arguing that no one can stop a good song from being a hit. Shishiliza also mentioned that people should stop hiding the gatekeeping excuse but should start making music that attracts promoters.

“Please this gate keeping chat with the internet around is boring. The artists in charge drop hits consistently… Nobody can stop a hit record from being a hit. Nobody.” Shishiliza responded.
