SA Hip Hop Mourns The Loss Of TKZee Member Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala. South Africans were taken aback by the unfortunate death of TKZee member Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala on Monday, August 15.
Magesh and the other TKZee crew made a massive contribution to Mzansi music and SA hip hop also benefited in a bid to promote South African sound to the world. The late kwaito artist Tokollo Tshabalala alias Magesh will always be treasured as one of the best music composers to emerge from South Africa.
According to a statement from the family, Tshabalala passed away on Monday after having an epileptic attack. He was a part of the renowned trio TKZee, which also included Zwai Bala and Kabelo Mabalane. “The family requests for privacy during this difficult period. All details pertaining to his memorial and funeral service will be shared in due course,” read the part of the statement.
SA rappers have taken to social media to remember Magesh since news of his death broke with some remembering the work that was done by the Kwaito legend.
Khuli Chana who is one of the most respected players in SA hip hop, took to Twitter to pay his tribute to Magesh as he labelled him his idol. “Rest in peace to My idol, my brother Magesh. Our last conversation was heartwarming collaboration with you was one of my wildest dreams. Thank you for making it a reality,” tweeted Khuli Chana.
Stogie T who is also a veteran rapper in Mzansi took to his Instagram story and posted a picture of Tokollo with a caption; “Rest In Peace Homie Tokollo ‘Magesh’ Tshabalala.” Other SA rappers include; Rashid Kay, DJ Speedsta and YangaChief also paid their respect to the TKZee member.
Magesh, who was a member of the 1990s band TKZee together with Kabelo Mabalane and Zwai Bala, had faded from public view for some time. But in April, the award-winning band stunned Mzansi with a performance at Celeb City before the eagerly anticipated boxing event between Cassper Nyovest and NaakMusiq.
