AKA and Burna Boy were close allies in the music space, but things took a nosedive following their debacle on social media. In an exclusive interview with SAHipHopMag, AKA explained the current state of his relationship with the African Giant and his interaction with the people in Nigeria when he visits.

Asked about the last time he talked to Burna Boy, AKA said gave an impression that the two artists did not have a long conversation together as he admitted that the vibe was different. “Maybe a year ago, two years ago, it was just like yeah man whatever, do what you gotta do,” he said.

AKA further clarified that his interaction with Burna Boy on Twitter wasn’t personal from the start, but he just didn’t like people disparaging his country following the alleged xenophobic attacks on foreign African nationals. “It was never about anything personal, I just don’t like people talking sh*t about my country,” he said. “It’s that simple you know, people were talking about there is a genocide in South Africa, the likes of Tiwa Savage and people talking about, they’re killing our people, it was bullsh*t, it was cap.”

The Supa Mega addressed his relationship with Burna Boy prior to their Twitter exchange by stating that they were never best friends and they didn’t have to be. AKA went on to applaud Burna on his present success in the music industry and wished him well in the future.

“We hadn’t spoken in a bit before that either, but you know this thing of like artists have to be like best friends is very weird to me,” he said. “We don’t have to be besties, congratulations, wish him all the best, Grammy winner, amazing, love his music, that’s cool man. I’m just a fan of Burna Boy, I might not be fam of him right now, but at least I can still be a fan, its cool,” he added.

AKA has recently tweeted that he has no problem with Burna Boy after one of his followers pleaded with both artists to squash their beef. “I have no problem with Burna at all. God Bless my brother.” Tweeted AKA.
