AKA Explains How His Collaboration With Nasty C ‘Lemons Lemonade’ Came About. AKA has recently turned a corner in his rap career following how his reputation has been marred with controversy. In a bid to remind Mzansi and his fans that he is still good at what he does, the award-winning rapper dropped Lemons (Lemonade) featuring Nasty C.
The brilliance of AKA came to light on how well the song was put together which left SA hip-hop with more cheers than jeers as Lemons (Lemonade) cruises on top of the music chart. In an interview with SA Hip Hop Mag, AKA revealed how he and Nasty C linked up leading to the making of Lemons Lemonade song.
“We started talking about a year ago, just you know, hey, hi, how are you doing, what’s going on?” He said. The Supa Mega stated that he has been noticing the work Nasty C has been doing in the USA and he has been following his music career. “I see what he’s been doing in the State, you know really following his career,” he added.
AKA revealed that Lemons Lemonade has been in the making for a year and when he presented the idea to Nasty C for the first time, the Durban rapper was not keen on it. The Supa Mega further mentioned that he had to work towards putting Nasty C in a position that he is comfortable in a bid to get the best out of him to perfect the track.
“I just said, man, I really need a record with Nasty C and the song came along,” he said. “By the way, Lemons Lemonade is like a year old, I’ve been making the song for a year, a lot of songs sit for a year, some songs sit for two years like Caiphus Songs sat for like two years before I finished it. Some songs like All Eyes On Me take three days, so it’s all about the process.”
He added; “I reached out to him, and at first he wasn’t too keen on it, but for me, it was about getting him into a space that he doesn’t really or a sonic space that it doesn’t really exist in the match and asking him to do something that he doesn’t really do often and to go to a different place and that place he went to its fantastic.”
