YO! MTV Raps Uncapped Returns Celebrating The Evolution Of SA Hip Hop With Host Tshego Koke. Hip-hop isn’t just music; it’s a dynamic cultural movement that speaks truth to power. MTV is bringing back the quintessential hip hop show, Yo! MTV Raps Uncapped, in recognition of hip-hop culture in South Africa. Tshego Koke, a Culture Squad member and hip-hop aficionado, will return as the host of the show. Tshego and his guests will preview and share their views on the latest hip hop joints in Mzansi. Catch the premiere of season 2 this Saturday, 15 October, at 15:00 CAT on DStv Channel 322.
Yo! MTV Raps Uncapped will delve into what’s happening in the hip hop game, interview the voices within it and provide a stage for the talent to shine. Every week, the show will kick off by highlighting a new drop in a feature titled Heat Seaker. The music and video will be reviewed by that week’s guest before a catch up between Tshego and his guests around what’s trending in SA hip hop. Hip hop heads can also look forward to Decoding the Song in which the guest artist breaks down the lyrics of one of their songs and decodes what was really being expressed in that track. Other segments include Word on the Street which highlights the latest news in hip hop and Bless the Beat which will come into play later in the season and is dedicated to giving the audience a platform to shine with their freestyle skills. “We are thrilled to give a platform to hip hop artists changing the status quo with their music and Yo! MTV Raps Uncapped does just that. Particularly interesting to watch is how the show captures the evolution of SA hip hop culture in a world where culture is taking a new form of expression through music, dance and fashion and where Africa is front and centre. It’s Africa’s time to shine and MTV is committed to uplifting and empowering African talent with programmes like this one”, said Monde Twala, Senior Vice President of Editorial and General Manager Paramount Africa and Peer Lead, BET International.
Host of Yo MTV Raps, Tshego Koke concluded, “We have inspiring Mzansi hip hop icons on the show this season including Ma-E and Nasty C to mention just a couple. We can’t wait for Mzansi hip-hop fans to see the incredible content we have in store, especially in a post-lockdown SA where artists are now back in full force to share the culture with its people. See you on Yo! MTV Raps this Saturday.”
