Taking from reports, it is understood that the Ayepyep chanter was on his way to a show at Woodmead News Cafe when shots were fired leading to his death. Cassper Nyovest who was a close friend to the famed DJ was the first person who came to many people’s thoughts following the devastating news.

The rapper took to Twitter to express his shock after learning of the death of his friend DJ Sumbody. “Batho ba slege jo! Ai Mara bafethu this can’t be it, tweeted Cassper Nyovest. Cassper Nyovest and DJ Sumbody were allegedly involved in a court dispute over royalties, which both of them denied.

According to City Press, the court decided in DJ Sumbody’s favour in their dispute over royalties. DJ Sumbody, the proprietor of Ayepyep, was reportedly in possession of a court order directing Cassper Nyovest to pay him R147K in royalties. This is in relation to their 2018 collaboration, Remote Control, which reportedly secured a deal with Samsung.

In the wake of the reports in regard to the legal battle between Cassper and DJ Sumbody the spokesperson of the late DJ came out and revealed DJ Sumbody’s side of the story. “This will also be duly chased down as the other side has reneged on a lot of the good faith agreements reached with them. The matter was withdrawn from the roll a day before going to trial, owing to a request from Cassper’s side that a negotiated settlement be reached so he would not lose his Samsung endorsement. Once this was agreed to, his management signed the settlement agreement and then went on to ignore and violate it shortly thereafter,” read the statement as per City Press.
