SA hip-hop enjoyed a remarkable 2022 with rappers coming out with their pen game and dishing out some of the biggest songs in the game. Veteran and multi-award-winning rapper K.O. came through with the biggest song of the year in SETE featuring Blxckie and YoungStunna.
The song has been occupying the number 1 spot for consecutive 19 weeks on SA radio stations and it shows how big it is in Mzansi. Following Ntsiki Mazwai’s recent claims that SETE is overrated, the song keeps getting attention for all the wrong reasons. This time around, questions are being raised on whether K.O. might have sampled his hit song from a Ghanaian artist’s song.
This came after a song called Feeling For You by a Ghanaian artist Reefer Tym surfaced on the internet and it sounds the same as K.O’s SETE. This development has caused a mixed bag of reactions from tweeps with some defending the veteran rapper whilst others criticizing him for duplicating someone’s work. “SETE sounds exactly the same as this joint,” read one of the tweets.
During an interview with DJ Sbu on Hustlers’ Corner Podcast, K.O. clearly unpacked how he got the beat for his hit song SETE. The rapper said that he got the beat from a Nigerian artist named Ruger whom he applauded for doing some amazing work in the music industry. . “Initially that was a beat I picked for another track I had on my album called ‘Demon’ featuring a young artist from Nigeria who’s doing amazing things right now his name is Ruger,” he said.
“So he was in the country earlier this year so I mean I got a call that I need to pull at the studio he wanted to link up, so I didn’t have a track, I was ready you know to pull for us to work on. So that night I actually reached out to a gang of producers you know locally and internationally for like a solid 12 hours straight trying to find a beat, eventually, I found the Sete beat,” said K.O.
