Despite having to face stiff competition from amapiano, the rap game in South Ah has been enduring something bigger than maintaining its status quo in the SA music industry.

The rampant passing of SA rappers has been of major concern within the industry. Big-name rappers and pioneers of the game have been passing away and that has left a void and a sombre mood. Taking to Twitter, Maggz admitted that SA hip hop is experiencing a massive nose-dive as big-name rappers are passing away at a fast speed.

In the same tweet, the Gucci Snakes chanter paid his respect to the fallen heroes of the game. “From Pro to HHP ,Dimplez ,Citi Lyts,Tumi Tladi ,Khanya the voice, Tibz , AKA, Riky and now Costa, SA hip hop is breathing with one lung at this point 💔💔Rest easy kings,” tweeted Maggz.

It’s been a month since AKA passed away after he was shot in Durban alongside his friend Tibz. A month later, Costa Titch also took his last breath after he collapsed performing on stage. Costa’s family issued a statement following the passing of the famed rapper.

“It is with deep pain that we find ourselves having to acknowledge his passing at this time,” Tsobanoglou’s family said in a post on his Instagram. “We are thankful for those emergency responders and all those present in his last hours.”

The statement did not mention a cause of death. “Costa was a galvanizing voice amongst South Africa’s amapiano scene – a talented rapper, dancer, singer, songwriter, collaborator and friend to the festival,” the statement read.

Tsobanoglou’s TikTok hit “Big Flexa” catapulted him to stardom throughout Africa. The rapper has just collaborated with Akon, a Senegalese-American singer who was featured on a remix of “Big Flexa.”
