YoungstaCPT & Shaney Jay Releases Their Second Collaboration Project “Suffer For Beauty”

YoungstaCPT and Shaney Jay are back and have delivered a hip hop classic with their second collaboration project, “Suffer For Beauty” which is the follow up to their 2021’s ‘Dreams Dont Pay Bills’ which was described by YoungstaCPT as his pandemic project which takes us through his life and thoughts during that period.

“Suffer For Beauty” is the aftermath of those years, what it’s like to survive your trauma and live to tell the tale. Also taking inspiration from the effort and strength women go through for a world that doesn’t always care, this project also dives into themes of the entertainment industry and what musicians go through to try and deliver their best work even in times of peril.

“Suffer For Beauty” is YoungstaCPT’s 32nd project release and the 12 track project will take you on an aural hip hop journey kicking off from the streets of Cape Town and in the words of producer Shaney Jay “This project has a very global sound if I do say so myself and we explored some new sounds on this project as well so we are definitely bringing something new to the table”

With only two features on the project coming from Cape Town based, Nashiefah on ”Doing Her Hair” along with UK Drill sensation M1llionz on instant banger “Catchy” YoungstaCPT and Shaney Jay have truly created a project which will be appreciated by the diehard hip hop heads.

“Keeping the features short was intentional but they’re still key songs. ‘Doing her Hair’ actually speaks
directly to the album art and the title of the project, linking to the fact of how women have to portray
themselves to the world at large and the work that goes into it. It’s a long process to suffer for beauty but
they do it effortlessly. Nashiefah is our in house vocalist so I’m always trying to make sure she gets a
spot on my projects.

“Catchy” was a stroke of luck. UK hip hop artist M1llionz was visiting South Africa and we connected when he stopped by in Kaapstad. He came through to my studio in Wynberg On the Blocc and laced his verse after shooting a crazy music video in CPT, but basically the song speaks about how today’s music has to be simple & catchy or else you’ll be another struggling rapper trying to make it, so even if you’re a hardcore street dude if you want to make a success in the mainstream you’re gonna have to compromise your style, in other words, Suffer for Beauty…”

YoungstaCPT, How does this release differ from your previous project?

“I think it’s shorter, not as lengthy or dragged out as the others might’ve been. It’s got a global appeal and isn’t too focused on the local situation but more the world at large. I also feel it’s more relatable to a wider hip hop audience…” – YoungstaCPT

“With this project we knew exactly which way we wanted to take it and you’ll hear that in the music.
With “Dreams Dont Pay Bills” we were still building that working relationship and that’s why every
track came effortlessly on this project…” Shaney Jay

What is your favourite song on this release and why? “My favorite song is Alhamdulilah, aside from once again expanding on the Cape Malay culture, I love when I’m able to incorporate my religion in music even though it’s sometimes frowned upon. God gave me this ability and if I’m able to praise him through song then there is clear evidence of my devotion and worship for when I’m no longer here to prove it.” – YoungstaCPT

“That’s a tough one because there’s so many great records on this project but I’m gonna have to go
with ‘Benni McCarthy’ because of how Young came through with the drill vibes on this track is crazy
from the hook to the flow/accent switch up he killed it..”. Shaney Jay

What is it like working with each other? “I’ve worked with many different producers on collaborative projects from GanjaBeatz to MaloonTheBoom so I’m very open to collaboration. I’m happy we’re getting to flex a bit more and show people “Dreams Dont Pay Bills” wasn’t all we were able to create. Shaney is a talented individual and has grown a lot since starting with Y?GEN back in 2020 so it’s nice to see how his sound has developed and in doing so making our music better…”- YoungstaCPT

“It’s always great working with Young because at the end of every session I always feel like I’ve
learned something new from him. Like I can definitely say I grew a lot as a producer because of his
guidance and that’s something I’ll always be grateful for…” Shaney Jay

“Suffer For Beauty“ Simply put is to struggle and strive but survive it, beautifully…” -YoungstaCPT
