AKA’s Mass Country Was Initially Meant To Be An AKA & Sjava Collabo

Speaking to SA Hip Hop Mag via The Episode Podcast, Zadok, the Mass Country album‘s producer, revealed the initial plan that was discussed during the creation of the late rapper’s body of work. The producer also shared the state of mind and the level of focus and input AKA infused during the 2 years of creating Mass Country.

“He (AKA) said yo, put together a team you trust and I’m like yo this is what I do, I bet you ain’t gonna ask me twice, I know exactly who I want and how I want to phrase this project,” he said. “Frame the project the way you (AKA) are selling it to me. So Nivo and I did that we pulled together a lot of it and that’s how the project began.

Zadok went on to say that the original plan for Mass Country was to have AKA and Sjava joint projects because the late rapper wanted to incorporate Maskandi elements into the work. “Funny enough, the initial concept of this project, there was a conversation about a joint project between AKA and Sjava because of the Maskandi influence that Kiernan wanted to have in the Mass Country. Obviously, that didn’t work, but in the end, we managed to still get Sjava on the track.”

Zadok added that he had a sneaky idea of making the Mass Country album Levels Sequel. “It took almost two years to put this together and I’m very proud of it. It was my secret mission to kind of like make it a Levels Sequel, Levels 2 of the sort.”
