Tweezy Explains Why Upcoming SA Rappers Are Not Surpassing The Heights That Were Reached By Emtee & Nasty C. The SA Hip-hop era of Nasty and Emtee dominance with songs such as Hell Naw and Roll Up will go down as one of the crucial turning points in SA hip-hop history.

From their debut, Emtee and Nasty C delivered hit after hit and SA Hip-Hop became the main talking point not only in South Ah but in the African region. Since then, the game has remained stagnant, but aspiring rappers have tried very hard to surpass the standard set by Nasty C and Emtee.

In an interview, famed Producer Tweezy was asked what he believes is the reason most upcoming South African rappers are faltering to exceed the standard set in 2015. “So when it comes to hip-hop, I feel like ever since Nasty and that Emtee era, we’ve never really had more artists to blow up at that level.” Said the interviewer.

In response, Tweezy said that the momentum was slowed down because of the rise of Amapiano. “I think the thing that makes it tricky right now, especially in the hip-hop space, is that not only just in hip-hop but with other genres the momentum was sort of slowed down by the rise of Amapiano,” he said.

On whether Amapiano affected hip-hop, Tweezy said, “Yeah and more than anything everyone was just so excited at this rebirth and having a new South African sound that we were all just so obsessed with this creation.” He said.

“So anything that sort of happened before that was sort of defaulted to really getting the attention it usually would, so there’s probably a lot of artists that could’ve blew up at the time and got in their star moment. But because of Piano, it was like you are dope and everything but Young Stunna, yo Sir Trill, Boohle, all these superstars we have in the Yanos and they deserve that shine too. We were just focused on Piano, which is not a bad thing at all for me.” Tweezy explained.
