Even if the well-known rapper created a song that appealed to the majority of young people in South Ah, credit also needs to be given to the work that went into creating it. Makwa who worked with Kwesta on most of the rapper’s successful songs revealed the back and forth that took place during the making of Spirit.

In an interview with SA Hip Hop Mag via The Episode Podcast, the famed producer said that Spirit was inspired by Ngud’. Makwa stated that after Kwesta delivered his verse for Spirit, the latter phoned him and requested him to delete it since he didn’t like it, but the legendary producer stuck to the original concept.

“Spirit was inspired by Ngud’ because I felt like after Ngud’ people are gonna ask that yo Kwesta what next,” he said. “I remember we were at Highlands North, I played the beat and Kwesta called me and said he want to rap I told him to slow down a bit with rapping I told him to come over and played him the beat and he listened to it and sang the hook and he left.

“He then called at night and said delete that hook I dont like it and I told him you’re crazy we are going ahead with that hook. The next morning he came and did the verses and the rest is history,” Makwa said.
