AKA’s Grammy Award Dream Fulfilled With The Introduction Of A New African Category
AKA’s Grammy Award Dream Fulfilled With The Introduction Of A New African Category. The introduction of the African category for the Grammy Awards has brought excitement to most music lovers and artists alike. The fact that African art is now being recognized for the most prestigious music award is a dream come true for most ambitious musicians.
However, some African artists who had dreams to contest the award are no longer alive to witness the reality of their dreams and one of them is AKA. In an old video, AKA can be heard discussing his desire to win a Grammy with Bonang Matheba.
AKA was asked by Bonang which Grammy Award category he would’ve liked to win if he was to contest for one. “I feel you are one step away from a Grammy, which category would you want to take?” A cheerful Bonang Matheba asked.
In response AKA said; “you know I was speaking to someone from the museum and asked if they have an African Category and its great for African music. I dont think it’s long before they dedicate a specific category for African artists and musicians, hopefully, I can be the first person to take that one.”
AKA’s passing came as a massive devastation to most South African music lovers and the world at large. However, the rapper did not go without a final salute to his musical genius, instead, he left a priceless gift through his Mass Country album. The album has done amazing things on the DSPs with his Megacy fans taking the streams to greater heights.
Recently, the Forbes family were presented with the plaques for the Supa Mega’s post-humours album following the success of Mass Country. “As Vth Season we are proud to share with the Forbes Family Gold and Platinum Plaques in honour of #MassCountry with our partner @sonymusicafrica #Dangerous certified Gold ft @blxckie_@nadianakai #Company certified Platinum ft @kddogram #Prada certified Gold ft @khulichana01 #Mbuzi (Freestyle) certified Gold ft @thatosaul #Lemons (Lemonade) 4x certified Platinum ft @nasty_csa Thank to our partners @sonymusicafrica and most of all thank you to The Megacy,” wrote Vth Season.
