With the slew of talent that has graced the game for the past decade, surely that’s a complicated topic for anyone who has witnessed the evolution of SA hip-hop.

However, it takes someone to be brutally honest in order to disclose their top 5 rap artists, and Kwesta has lately been on the firing line in order to give his. During an interview at an event with SlikourOnLife, the Nomayini hitmaker revealed the SA Hip-hop OGs in his top 5 including himself.

“You have to look at it in two ways, there are people who are doing amazing things but never really influenced my writing or how I look at hip-hop,” he said. “Then there are people who influenced me. So I dont want to do a top 5 and almost kicked the people who are doing the most amazing things now and then only mentioned people that affected me. If you are asking me what my top 5 is that affected me and has nothing to do with how the game looks at it, then i can tell you that top5, Kwesta,” said.

On naming his top 5 Kwesta said; “ProKid at the top number 1, then the others wont be in order. ProKid, Zakwe, Stogie T, Proverb, and HHP.” Kwest added that above all, Zola is the one who stays above the top SA rappers. “Then there is also a one that always stays above the top 5 of hip-hop which is Zola,” Kwesta added.
