“It’s cultivated” – Kwesta Reveals How He Got His Deep Voice

In a recent interview with Zingah on Choppin It With Budha T Podcast, Kwesta candidly shared his journey of discovering and developing his deep voice, shedding light on the factors that shaped his iconic sound. The rapper said the deep voice is not natural, rather it came when he was first introduced to cigarettes.

“A cousin of mine got me into cigarettes, it wasn’t even something that I thought was cool. I mean I go to multi-racial schools, so I could find other things cool. I think poetry’s cool at that point,” he said.

In response, Zingah made a witty remark to Kwesta’s revelation. “This is a cigarette voice,” Zingah said. “It is. This is not natural, I wasn’t born with it. It was cultivated,” he added. “So a cousin of mine got into smoking cigarettes… but I always sh** on him and kind of went ‘The f** are you doing?’ I was acting all high and mighty, all righteous and sh*t, ” Kwesta explained.

Kwesta claimed that after trying it once and feeling disoriented, he made the decision to never take it again. But he gave it another shot, and this time he even became addicted.

“I’ve smoked for a very long time and the voice kind of broke. You know when it breaks because you’re growing and then it breaks because you’ve been f**king it up the whole time? So that’s what happened with this voice.” he added.

The Nomayini hitmaker is currently working towards his 16th Bar Legacy Music Tour celebrating the 16-year successful stint in the rap game. The tour started in April and it will stretch until the 12th of August 2023 at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena.
