Despite this, some music lovers remain unconvinced about SA hip-hop’s development, claiming that the genre is still trailing behind the Yanos. Although the celebrated Xhosa rapper supports the rise of SA hip-hop, one of his followers disagreed, claiming that rap in SA no longer sounds the same. “SA hip hop doesn’t sound very SA anymore. Maybe that’s why people aren’t interested,” read the thread.

Yanga Chief went on and refuted the claims stating that people are still interested in South African rap and the genre is not dead. Yanga added that the current sound in Hip hop will evolve and the culture will regain its status quo once again. “People are very interested. The current sound will evolve over time. It’s headed back to South Ah.” Yanga said.

The Xhosa rapper is now working on an album, and he has assured his fans that it will be released at the right moment. “BAPS was ahead of its time, POP STAR was ahead of its time, and this next album will be ON TIME. ON GOD.” Tweeted Yanga Chief.
