As DJ Ready D marks three and a half decades of unwavering commitment to his craft, he pauses to contemplate his lasting impact and the constantly changing terrain of South African hip-hop culture. Taking to Twitter (X), the Capetown DJ said that he has put his heart to the culture stating that it hasn’t been an easy ride.

With all the experience and the difficulties that come with committing himself to the Hip-hop culture, DJ Ready D said that he’s forever grateful for everyone who has supported him throughout the way. “I’ve been putting my heart into hip hop since day one with over 35 years of experience in the culture. It hasn’t always been easy, but I’m grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way. I wouldn’t be where I am today without you.” He wrote.

One of DJ Ready D’s most significant contributions to South African hip-hop culture was his role in founding the iconic hip-hop crew, Prophets of the City (POC). POC was one of the first groups in the country to fuse local influences with global hip-hop sounds, creating a unique and authentic South African flavour. Their debut album, “Age of Truth,” released in 1993, remains a classic in the annals of South African hip-hop.

Over the years, DJ Ready D has continued to nurture young talent, serving as a mentor and inspiration to many aspiring DJs and hip-hop artists in South Africa. He has also been a prominent figure in the battle rap scene, organizing events and competitions that have helped elevate the skill and artistry of South African lyricists.
