During an interview with Palesa Tau on SABC, Priddy Ugly discussed his reasons for retiring from the music industry. “I just felt like it has been a long time coming technically, a lot of people might’ve heard about me today, some even last week, some even last year. My first record deal was 17 years ago, I’ve been kinda like trying to establish myself as an artist for that long and I just feel like it is time,” he said.

The acclaimed rapper expressed that while he’s bidding farewell to the rap game, he isn’t leaving without valuable lessons acquired throughout his career. “I’ve learnt a lot of lessons in the industry generally, life lessons and also I’m not just the same person like when I started you know. I was a kid when I started, but now it is different, the meaning behind what I do is very different, I’m looking at the next generational Priddy Ugly, Nasty Cs, HHPs and AKAs.

The proud father also mentioned that he won’t be entirely distancing himself from the music scene; instead, he’ll be working behind the scenes to mentor and influence the younger generation in the industry.

“I just think it’s time for me to use some of the lessons I have learnt and try to instil them in the younger generation and see how I can leave a mark behind the scenes,” said Priddy Ugly. “I dont think I will ever stop making music. People dont understand how much it takes to work on an album, you can look at artists like Riky Rick had one album he dropped singles, it takes so much.”
