The famed rapper is set to delve into his family’s rich history in an upcoming short film that promises to be a compelling exploration of identity and heritage. Maglera Doe Boy has captured hearts with his poignant portrayal of the challenges faced by township residents and the daunting history of black people during the Apartheid era.

Now, he is extending his storytelling prowess into the visual domain, fusing his rap skills in a short film that promises a glimpse into the foundational roots that have moulded him. Announcing on Instagram, the “Makazana” hitmaker revealed plans to release a personal short film titled “The Running Of The Bulls.” This cinematic endeavour is dedicated to delving into his family’s rich history and the challenges they confronted during the apartheid era.

“My grandfather raised my father on a farm. A farm where they worked for a farmer who ended up kicking them off the land. He had cows he raised over the years that belonged to him. But in the times of apartheid black people were not allowed to move with any cattle from one place to another,” wrote Maglera Doe Boy.

Sharing the background history of his upbringing, Maglera Doe Boy said that his grandfather was crucial in shaping the family narrative which he has captured in a short film. In reflection of his family’s history, Maglera lays bare the legacy of his people, whispering tales of survival and sacrifice against the backdrop of South Africa’s tumultuous past. Each story passed down through generations, paints a stark picture of resilience in the face of racial injustice.

“This lead to a very poor family in a very poor time for people of color. When I sit with my uncles they tell me stories of being shot in their stomachs stealing cows. A practice even my father is very familiar with. This next piece of art is dedicated to that side of my family affected by the South African Diaspora. POVO. A short film I did in Mozambique amongst some very talented people. Dropping this week,” he added.
