Priddy Ugly Reflects On Emotions Behind Writing Sentimental Song “Rest In Power.” With the DUST album marking the end of an era for Priddy Ugly, the award-winning rapper once again proved his storytelling prowess in a full-fledged body of work which is the most reflective and honest album in his music catalogue.
Priddy Ugly didn’t just deliver a singularly themed body of work; instead, the rapper explored various themes, showcasing his versatility. His profound exploration of personal, emotional, and religious aspects surrounding death underscores his deep connection to the realities of his environment.
In the song “Rest In Power,” Priddy Ugly confronts the losses of those close to him, grappling with the tragic circumstances of their deaths, whether through violence or suicide. Taking to Twitter, one of the rapper’s fans asked about his emotional state during the creative process of the song, acknowledging its profound emotional depth and significant sentimental value. “I wonder how you felt when recording this, this is so personal, you goated.” Read the post.
In response, Priddy Ugly said that he recorded the song a year ago during his first studio session with producer Shooter Khumz. As good as “Rest In Power” sounds on the album, the rapper added that when he made the song he was not inspired and it is the song that set the tone for every track on his DUST album.
“Recorded it exactly a year ago, 1 st session that I had with @ShooterKhumz last year. I hadn’t recorded or wrote in a while before this, hadn’t really felt inspired. It set the tone for the songs that followed,” Priddy Ugly said.
In the chorus of the song, Priddy candidly addresses the tragic murder of AKA and the heartbreaking suicide of Riky Rick, posing intricate questions as he seeks to comprehend the reasons behind such devastating events.
“Does God exist is the question… God, why they kill? Why you let them? Kiernan got killed, what’s the lesson? Riky took his life, was it destined? (Eish) Lord knows we’ve been tested… And we don’t look for trouble, we expect it… To keep it clean, there’s dirty n*gg*s that I mess with… Can’t name a politician I’m impressed with,” he raps.
