Addressing the media during the initial court appearance concerning the murder case, Tony Forbes, the father of AKA, expressed his dismay regarding the suspects wearing masks. He emphasized that the nation deserves to identify the individuals responsible for the tragic killing of the renowned rapper on February 10, 2023.

“Not just me (want to see them face to face) the people of South Africa should see their faces. I dont understand how the system works, but I hope there is some precedence from the magistrate to tell them to take off their masks,” Tony Forbes said.

However, after the short court briefing, Tony Forbes expressed that he felt better after witnessing the suspects removing their masks. “I felt better, now I could see the faces of those who killed my son and Tibz. Obviously, I wanna see the other persons as well, I wanna know who is above them,” he said.

Tony Forbes further emphasized that his attendance at the court session is integral to his process of finding closure. He stressed the significance of maintaining hope that the truth surrounding the circumstances leading to the deaths of AKA and Tibz will ultimately be revealed.

“For me, it was important they were compelled to take their masks off, for me it feels more real, it’s part of my closure to be here, to get close to the truth that’s the starting point. So, I can’t say I feel good, but I feel that it’s started, it steps to what happened to Kiernan and Tibz,” Tony Forbes told ENCA.
