Youngsta CPT Faces Criticism For Playing The Race Card After Tyla’s Grammy Win
Youngsta CPT Faces Criticism For Playing The Race Card After Tyla’s Grammy Win. Youngsta CPT has found himself under scrutiny for his recent comments following Tyla’s Grammy win.
The famed rapper has always been an advocate for the coloured people in South Africa whom he believes have been marginalised mostly in his hometown in Cape Town. Nevertheless, amidst the nationwide euphoria following Tyla’s groundbreaking Grammy victory, Youngsta CPT‘s comments on the matter have been perceived as bitter and discontented.
Taking to Twitter, the Kaapstad rapper expressed the view that coloured people in South Africa receive recognition only when they achieve something remarkable that captures the nation’s attention. The rapper’s statement implies that there is still much room for improvement in supporting the coloured community, even when they are not actively contributing to the nation’s happiness.
“At this point, if you wanna be taken seriously as a coloured, you gotta do something serious for South Africa 1st,” said Youngsta CPT. The rapper’s remarks stirred anger amongst South Africans who are celebrating Tyla’s big win. Fans expressed their disagreement with Youngsta CPT’s perspective. Critics argued that attributing Tyla‘s success to her race undermines the togetherness of South Africa as a country.
In her acceptance speech for the award, the 22-year-old Tyla eloquently her pride in being a South African. “I never thought I’d say I won a Grammy at 22 years old. If you dont know me my name is Tyla I’m from South Africa and last year God decided to change my whole life. So thank you so much to God, thank you to my team, my family, I know my mother is crying somewhere in here. Thank you to the Recording Academy for this category it’s so important,” Tyla said.
