South African Hip Hop has encountered significant pushback from audiences, prompting certain artists to pivot towards the Amapiano trend. Yet, despite potential disinterest in the genre among some listeners, there remains optimism for the revival of SA Hip Hop to its previous prominence.

Taking to Twitter (X), former Wrecking Crew member Ex-Global expressed that there’s still room for the revival of SA Hip Hop. The renowned Pretoria rapper emphasized the importance of South African rappers setting aside their differences and collaborating, suggesting that such unity could reignite interest in rap culture among listeners.

“What can we do for SA hip-hop artists to put their differences aside and start working together? Also for them to promote talented upcoming talents? Wouldn’t that make a difference in flooding the market and create a demand for hip-hop acts at events, clubs and festivals?” Ex-Global said.

In a separate post, the Holy Trinity chanter underscored the significance of artist collaboration, highlighting the PTA vs Durban initiative as a positive catalyst which fostered essential conversations within the culture in the past.

“That PTA vs DBN chat brought out so many talented hip hop artists that I have never heard before . All we have to do is get establishe SA Hip Hop acts to collaborate with these talented upcoming artists and that should be able to flood the market & create a demand in hip hop.” Ex Global added.

Ex-Global is filled with strong belief and enthusiasm that South African Hip Hop can reclaim the essence that captured hearts back in 2015. The rapper expressed that despite clubs showing reluctance to book hip-hop artists, there are still avenues for rap culture to thrive, enabling artists to gather and support each other.

“If the clubs and events don’t want to book hip hop acts then let’s bring back hip hop mansion parties Where we will book all the hip hop artists and Djs , having them and their supporters in intimate spaces should create an undeniable vibe . The streets will shake , peep it,” he said.
