While her passing sparked intense discussions on social media, few envisioned documenting the couple’s journey in a book. However, award-winning author and journalist Melinda Ferguson has other ideas as she put together a book about AKA and Anele Tembe‘s relationship titled “When Love Kills.”

The imminent release of the book came a year after the murder of AKA in Durban and that has ignited mixed reactions amongst South Africans. Speaking to The South African publication, Tembe family spokesperson Manqoba Zulu said that the family has not been involved in writing Melinda Ferguson’s book.

The family clarified that Ferguson’s perspectives in the book represent her individual opinions and research, and the Tembe family is not affiliated with it. “The Tembe family did not commission the writing of the book and did not contribute to it in any way. The book is therefore Melinda’s own view based on her own research,” Manqoba Zulu said.

He further mentioned that certain publications have linked Moses Tembe and the family to Melinda’s book, but the family explicitly denies Mr. Tembe’s participation. “We have seen some publications referencing quotes from Mr Tembe. We categorically deny that Mr Tembe shared such views with Melinda.”

AKA’s family also released a statement distancing themselves from participating in Melinda Ferguson’s book. The Forbes family stated that the move to issue out a book following the passing of their son is “distasteful and opportunistic.”

We are not in any way associated with Melinda Ferguson’s book and we do not endorse it. In the same breath we distance ourselves from the contents of the book.

When Melinda reached out to us, we respectfully and rightfully declined to contribute to her book.

At this stage we cannot give any further comment on the book as we are unaware of its contents. We do however find the intended publication of the book and the timing distasteful and opportunistic.

Tony and Lynn Forbes.”
