In a Twitter thread, the renowned DJ asserted that while acknowledging AKA’s musical genius, it was Cassper with his determination that elevated South African hip-hop to new heights through his commercial deals and cultural influence.

“Cassper had the talent, the hunger, the energy and the time to move things forward. I can tell you now…To move hiphop forward that was one of the most important interviews on radio because of what it motivated Cassper to do to the extent that even Aka wouldn’t be as big as he was without an opponent like Cassper.”

“Mind you most of Aka’s hits are house music samples. Topic for another day. “I hope you bought it” and the comments about it ALWAYS make me smile and nod because that question moved things forward. It was the right question to ask the right guy. You don’t have to be an active player in a genre or need a pat on the back to assist it in moving things forward. Do what you can with what you have,” said DJ Euphonik.

Euphonik’s remarks received so much criticism from some SA Hip Hop fans who have witnessed the rise of both SA rap superstars. Including them is AKA’s close associate in the music industry Richard Mahogany.

The music producer criticized Euphonik for his lack of tact, suggesting that he had chosen to broach the comparison between AKA and Cassper only after AKA’s passing. “You’re the most touched. All of these years later to the point of mentioning a dead man’s name. Have some decorum.” Wrote Rich Mahogany.

Despite their differences in musical style, both AKA and Cassper Nyovest have made a significant impact on the South African music industry. The tragic passing proved how Cassper and AKA’s co-existence in SA rap was significant and the late rapper left a massive void when it comes to the competitive nature of Hip Hop.
