Taking to X, Nyovest expressed his frustration over the fluctuating electricity tariffs. He highlighted that both the prices and the units change unpredictably each month, which leaves him infuriated about the escalating cost of living in Johannesburg.

His candid remarks reflect the broader struggle many face in managing their finances amid such instability. “Guys Does the price of electricity change ? Last week I bought R3000 electricity and it was 900 units. Today R3000 only gave me 750 units. Also what’s mad that is R3000 rand electricity lasts a week in my house , with the geysers off and everything. Life in JHB IS CRAZY,” wrote Cassper.

The increased tariffs come at a time when South Africa is grappling with frequent power outages and load-shedding schedules, adding to the frustration. Many citizens are questioning the value they receive for the higher rates, as service reliability remains a significant issue.

In another post, Cassper noted that although he has transitioned to solar power and is no longer reliant on Eskom’s grid only, the cost of electricity in South Africa remains high. “I have a full Solar too. So I don’t experience load shedding. Mara still , electricity in this country has become too expensive. 12 k a month on electricity is madness mann… it used to be 18k a month before I moved to prepaid. like this is scary. What’s gonna happen in 5 years?” Cassper lamented.
