The four-part series dives into the rich history and cultural impact of the Maftown Heights festival, a major force in SA hip-hop. Khuli Chana, who co-founded the festival, sees the documentary as more than just a chronicle of events.

“This is the Maftown Heights Untold Stories Premier, today is special, first episode of a four-part series live on Channel O 15th of June. We take you back to the origins of Mstwako, the making of Morafe, I can’t wait for episode 2 where you now get to experience the events and the festivals. It’s going to blow your mind, it’s gonna take you down memory lane and it’s gonna remind you why you call me OG,” Khuli Chana told Sowetan Mag.

Speaking eloquently at the premiere event for the documentary, the seasoned rapper expressed that the film was crafted to safeguard the narratives of SA Hip Hop and ensure that the authentic stories remain untarnished amidst the multitude of voices.

“It’s important to document our stories so that when we claim the narrative we own our stories so that it’s not diluted by so many voices especially in the face of globalization,” he added.

“Maftown Heights Untold Stories” premieres on Channel O this Saturday, June 15th, at 4 pm SAST. New episodes will be released weekly.
