Usimamane Shares The Story Behind The Creation Of “Cheque”
Usimamane Shares The Story Behind The Creation Of “Cheque.” Durban’s very own Usimamane has been the talk of the town ever since he dropped his hit single “Cheque.”
In a recent interview on YFM, the rapper delved into the inspiration and creative process behind the song that’s been dominating the airwaves. “How we invented Cheque, so what happened was we had the beat, and the beat was already like a song it had like the people that I know and I was like I really mess with this beat and I really wanna still use it,” he said.
“The day I heard the beat I was like we gonna record today, unfortunately, there was load-shedding and it was very late I think it was like 12. So load shedding happened and we had to wait for the electricity to come back we woke up in the morning then I just had to write the lyrics because we already had the flow. With me when I write I record something.”
Usimamane emphasized that his intention was never to create an anthem when he composed the song. Instead, he envisioned it as a heartfelt prayer. He sought to capture a sense of introspection and supplication, hoping that listeners would find a personal and spiritual connection with the music.
“I wasn’t trying to do like an anthem I was like let me do something like a prayer “I just need a cheque, ha wema. With ha wema it’s like what is it that I’m gonna do when I get a cheque? So in the morning, we had Cheque, and Jerome heard the song.
“Jerome is also like one of my managers he had to phone Coach Kay who’s like my other manager and he told me that this song I think is the one. I didn’t like the song, to be honest I didn’t like it. As soon as I uploaded that video, it went viral and I knew what to do next,” he added.
