Zingah Gives An Oblique Answer On His Status As A Hip-Hop Artist
Zingah Gives An Oblique Answer On His Status As A Hip-Hop Artist. Even though he’s delivered numerous hits in South African Hip Hop, Zingah has showcased another side of his creativity through his Choppin’ It With Budha T Podcast.
The podcast has managed to sync up on aspects of SA Hip Hop and the current state of the genre. However, with all the marvellous work he is doing on his podcast, there’s still uncertainty about Zingah’s status as a Hip Hop artist after he announced his retirement in 2022.
In commemorating the 10th anniversary of AKA’s iconic Levels Album, Zingah was among the distinguished South African celebrities who attended the documentary screening of the album doccie at the SK cinema in Sandton, Johannesburg last night.
Speaking to the media, Zingah was asked to share if he is still a hip-hop artist. “We just wanna find out, are you still a hip-hop artist?” In response, Zingah evaded the question by asserting that he remains engaged in South African hip-hop culture on his terms, participating when he chooses. “On some days, on good days when I feel like it,” he said. “I’m a hip-hop human, I’m a podcaster, I rap when I feel like it, dress like it when I feel like it,” he added.
In 2022, Zingah announced his retirement from hip-hop but recently stated that he’s still making music but hasn’t released it. “I’m a musician at heart. I needed a break, and I’m taking it now. So far, it’s been healthy. I don’t know if I’m ready to go back. I still make music but don’t release it,” Zingah told Daily Sun.
