On Monday, the newly appointed Minister made a bold move towards enhancing transparency regarding the department’s finances, announcing that rigorous accountability measures will now track every allocation from the Treasury. Following his announcement, he intends to publish a thorough roster detailing recipients of financial aid from his department.

“I have given an instruction that a list be published of all artists, creatives and sportspeople who have been receiving money from the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture be published inclusive of amounts and reasons. The time where only a select connected few benefit is over,” wrote Minister Mckenzie on X.

Minister Gayton McKenzie’s announcement elicited mixed reactions from South Africans, particularly those involved in the creative sector. SA rapper Rouge is one of the artists who applauded the Minister’s decision. “I like this,” ❤️💙 Rouge said.

This isn’t the first time Minister McKenzie has received praise from a South African rapper; previously, Maglera Doe Boy applauded him when he announced plans to legalize Spins and Stunts as an official sport in South Africa.
