Boity: “God and Ancestors Can Co-Exist”
Boity: “God and Ancestors Can Co-Exist.” South African rapper, television personality, and entrepreneur Boity Thulo sparked a conversation following her recent remarks about the coexistence of religious practices.
In a candid interview on the L-Tido Podcast, the renowned rapper shared her views, stating that the two spiritual worlds can coexist. Her remarks followed her journey as a sangoma and her recent return to church after a six-year absence.
“Those worlds can co-exist, there’s God then there are ancestors, that’s lineage stuff and things that we do for that. We dont pray to ancestors, I still pray to God, I still listen to gospel music, those worlds it’s not like you can’t be a God-fearing person and still go practice ancestral duties, those things can co-exist,” Boity said.
Boity also delved into the ongoing discussion and the prevailing narrative among Christians, challenging the belief that ancestors don’t exist and that the deceased cannot influence the realm of the living. “There was a conversation of Christians believing that the bible says there’s no such thing as ancestors, everyone who’s dead is dead.
“I feel like it’s a conversation for another day because that would take hours to uncover and dissect. But personally, there’s never been a space in me that said I’m rejecting this part of me so that I can fulfil this part. They live together,” she added.
To further emphasize her point, Boity explained that ancestors remain integral to our lives, guiding our daily journeys. She added that they also encourage us to read the Bible, reinforcing her belief that both spiritual realms can coexist harmoniously.
“There are some ancestors that you walk with that still require you to read the bible, that’s why I’m saying I dont understand why people think that those worlds can’t coexist, they can you can do one and the other, one doesn’t cancel the other based on your belief system.”
