Producer Makwa Reveals He Received Nothing In Royalties From Kwesta’s Hit Song “Mayibabo”

The recent revelation regarding artists not receiving their royalties from Kwesta’s hit “Mayibabo” highlights a deeply flawed industry that despite its outward success, fails to truly reflect its core values and integrity.

In light of a recent revelation by former Rhythm City actress Itumeleng Bokaba, who disclosed that she received just 59 cents for her contribution to Kwesta’s “Mayibabo,” the song’s producer, Makwa, also stepped forward to share that he received nothing for his work on the track.

Taking to X, Makwa pinned all the blame on Nota who was Kwesta’s manager back then when the song was released. He exonerated DJ Maphorisa who has also been caught in a whirlwind of robbing artists what’s due to them.

Makwa said that Nota did the split without them knowing and they were robbed of what’s due to them. “Maphorisa is not responsible for this fuck up, Nota is. He did the splits behind ours backs,” wrote Makwa.

Despite facing scrutiny for his comments, Makwa emphasized that being credited on the song did not equate to receiving payment for his contribution. “You can clearly see that the song is not on my portal. Being credited on the doesn’t mean that you getting paid. there’s a big difference,” he added.
