Fans Critique Major League DJs After Claiming Recognition For SA Hip Hop Contribution. Major League DJs have found themselves at the centre of controversy after responding to a social media post honouring South African Hip Hop DJs who played a pivotal role in the genre’s growth over the years. Fans were quick to call them out, accusing the duo of abandoning SA Hip Hop in favour of Amapiano and questioning their demand for recognition.

A fan recently shared a heartfelt post listing prominent SA Hip Hop DJs who have contributed significantly to the culture, writing: “Dj Dimplez (RIP) Dj Vigilante Dj Speedsta Dj Capital Dj Sliqe Dj Switch Dj Slim Dj Citi Lyts (RIP) Dj Hudson Ms Cosmo Miss Pru Dj. Y’all are appreciated, SA Hip Hop wouldn’t be where it is now without your contribution. 👑👑👑.”

While the post was meant to celebrate these figures for their role in shaping the local hip-hop industry, Major League DJs took issue with their absence from the list, replying: “Y’all forget too much.”

Their response was met with backlash, with fans arguing that Major League DJs have no place in the conversation, given that they shifted their focus to Amapiano. Many pointed out that the duo, once heavily involved in SA Hip Hop, transitioned into the Amapiano scene and have since distanced themselves from the hip-hop community.

“Respectfully, you guys jumped ship the moment it got bad for SA Hip-Hop & Piano started booming. Maybe don’t worry too much about a genre y’all left behind and celebrate the AMAZING, groundbreaking work you’ve done for Piano,” one user replied.

Another added, “Yall made a switch, a very beneficial one too. Thank you for Zulu Girl & Do better.”

To their credit, Major League DJs were once deeply embedded in the SA Hip Hop movement. They worked with some of the biggest names in the industry, hosted events that celebrated the genre, and even dropped hip-hop records before pivoting to Amapiano. However, their transition to Amapiano was not subtle. The duo became vocal advocates for the genre and pushed the global growth of Amapiano.
