Kane Keid Explains The Meaning Behind “Not Famous” EP Title

Kane Keid Explains The Meaning Behind “Not Famous” EP Title. Rising hip-hop artist Kane Keid is preparing to drop his much-anticipated EP, Not Famous — a project that promises to be as introspective as it is impactful. In a recent conversation, Kane shed light on why he chose such a paradoxical title, despite growing recognition in the scene.

“I took that name from the song Not Famous,” he shared. “The first few lines being; ‘they saying what up, what up Kane you made it I swear bro I’m not even famous.’” It’s a striking declaration — one that reflects the disconnect between public perception and personal reality.
For Kane, Not Famous isn’t just a clever name. It’s a statement of intent. “A lot of people will try to project a certain image onto you — ‘you’re famous,’” he explained. “So I just took myself out of that box and put myself into a position where I can be freely myself. Not a famous person. Just me.”
Describing the upcoming EP as “very intimate, very personal, vulnerable,” Kane Keid emphasized that the project is grounded in honesty — far from the glitz and glam typically associated with the spotlight. He revealed that the entire EP is rooted in the song Not Famous — a continuation of the themes he touched on in Black Boy Fly, a Kendrick Lamar-inspired track he dropped last year.
“That song was inspired by the fact that at that time I was starting to buzz,” he said. “Listening to Kendrick’s Black Boy Fly was like, yo, he has seen a lot of people fly out of the hood. He saw it and was like, ‘Dang, will I make it out?’ But I was telling it from the perspective of — I’m making it out.”
He continued, “I haven’t seen anyone doing it like me from my hood. From my hood specifically, I know people are looking at me like, ‘Okay, we see you going up.’ So there’s that pressure — will I be able to hold up this title of being famous and being the greatest out of my hood? Will I be able to hold that up, or will it fall upon me, and I just become someone who half made it?”
With Not Famous, Kane Keid is pushing past expectations and unpacking the complexities of success, identity, and purpose. Far from a celebration of fame, this EP looks to be a raw, reflective offering — one that reaffirms that being known isn’t as important as being real.
