Anele Zondo Reveals How Motherhood Fueled Her Ambition In Hip Hop

Anele Zondo Reveals How Motherhood Fueled Her Ambition In Hip Hop. During an interview on 5 Hip Hop Nights on 5FM with DJ Speedsta and Shabzi Madallion, rapper Anele Zondo opened up about a journey that challenges one of the most persistent ideas in entertainment: that motherhood slows down a woman’s career.

Instead of stepping back, she described a shift that pushed her forward in a completely new direction, reshaping both her identity and her ambition in hip hop.

When asked why motherhood had not ended her drive, she made her stance clear with faith at the centre of it all. “Yeah, it’s not game over for me until the Lord says so,” she declared.

Anele reflected on how difficult the transition into motherhood really was, especially while navigating the pressures of being one of the few visible female rappers in South Africa, raising a child. The postpartum period, she explained, brought an internal struggle that the public did not always see.

“I didn’t feel like Anele Zondo,” she confessed. While audiences often read confidence from her outward presence, she revealed that internally she was dealing with a deep dip in self-assurance. What looked like composure from the outside was actually a rebuilding phase behind the scenes.

Over time, her perspective shifted, largely because of her daughter. Motherhood became less about limitation and more about expansion, giving her purpose a wider scope than before.

“My daughter made me realise things that I didn’t realise when I was just living for myself,” Zondo explained. That realisation reframed her goals and pushed her toward a more intentional and expansive vision of her future.

She now speaks openly about building something far beyond recognition in music alone.

“I wanna build an empire,” she said. “I wanna be bigger than just a household name. I want you to eat me, breathe me, live me. Everything about Anele Zondo must be in stores. Everything about Anele Zondo must be consumable.”

Her words carry a sense of scale and certainty, pointing toward a future where her influence stretches beyond music into lifestyle, branding, and cultural presence.
