Marcus Harvey Releases Highly Anticipated Album “Son of Elvis.” South African singer, songwriter and producer Marcus Harvey has officially released his highly anticipated album Son of Elvis, giving listeners a fresh glimpse into the world of one of Mzansi’s most distinctive contemporary storytellers.
The album arrives on Friday, 28 August, following a brief shift from its initially announced July release date. For Harvey, whose real name is Lawrence Ofentse Harvey Mashiloane, the project represents another defining moment in a career shaped by soulful melodies, introspective writing and a willingness to blur the lines between R&B, neo-soul and hip-hop.
Harvey first unveiled the Son of Elvis title in May, sharing a striking visual accompanied by the declaration: “It’s time. A new body of work. A new chapter in my story. SON OF ELVIS.” Initially scheduled for 10 July, the album was later moved to 28 August, turning the date into a significant moment for the artist and his listeners.
The new album arrives as the latest instalment in a steadily developing musical journey. Harvey introduced himself with his 2020 debut I Am Marcus Harvey, a project that explored themes of love, ambition and personal struggle. His 2021 EP You Still Don’t Know Me continued that introspective exploration, while 2024’s Now You Know Me presented a more assured artist, combining English and vernacular lyricism with jazz-inspired production and appearances from artists including Maglera Doe Boy and 25K.

In the lead-up to the release, Harvey offered several previews of the project through a carefully selected run of singles. “Mapula”, “Come To Me” featuring Mick Jenkins and the more recent “Waters” each revealed different sides of the album, from vulnerable reflections and intimate melodies to a more expansive exploration of Harvey’s sound.
