“Today, I let the song leave me and become yours. It’s out in the world now so go find it, feel it, and take whatever part of it speaks to you,” Mabalane wrote in a heartfelt message accompanying the release.

Featuring The Arrows, Everybody Needs Somebody serves as the first taste of Mabalane’s upcoming tenth solo album, which is expected later this year. The release comes after years away from a full-length project, following Immortal Vol. 3 in 2015.

For Kabelo Mabalane, however, the extended break was never about walking away from music. It was about allowing life, faith and personal growth to shape the artist he would eventually become. Now a husband, father and pastor, he returns with music informed by experiences that could not have been captured by simply revisiting the sound or persona of his younger years.

The single also arrives as Mabalane marks 24 years of sobriety, a milestone that has become an important part of his life story. In 2002, following a four-day binge that resulted in him being hospitalised, the musician entered rehabilitation and began a journey of recovery that would profoundly reshape his life.

That experience gives Everybody Needs Somebody an added sense of purpose. Its message speaks to connection, faith, recovery and the importance of having people around you through life’s difficult seasons.

Mabalane also took time to acknowledge The Arrows, reflecting on how long the collaboration had been in the making.

“We finally put something down on wax. It’s been at least a decade in the making. Here’s to many more,” he wrote.

He also thanked DJ Nasty KG and the fans who have continued to support him throughout a career spanning three decades.

“Thank you to all of you for the love you are showing and have shown for the past 30 years,” Mabalane added.

The release sets the stage for what could be one of the more meaningful musical returns of the year. For fans who remember Mabalane through songs such as Pantsula 4 Life, Dubula and the era-defining TKZee catalogue, his comeback offers more than a trip down memory lane.

It introduces a Kabelo Mabalane shaped by years of experience, family, faith and recovery, with a new body of music that reflects the person he has become.

Everybody Needs Somebody is now available across digital streaming platforms, with Mabalane’s tenth solo album expected to follow later this year.
