The great thing about interviews is that fans often get to hear untold stories related to things that they have either heard or seen in the media. JR on his latest interview with Mac G and Sol Phenduka on Podcast and Chill With Mac G “Kiernan sent me the beat from Tweezy and was like can you write something for this for like a chorus. When I listened to it I automatically heard something that went to a Jamaica vibe. For me, I heard something that goes “here comes the hub stepper, dzom dzom” So I recorded that and I sent it to Kiernan and I said “yo this is the vibe that I think” and he was like I dig the vibe I just the feel like, the melody line has been used”.

“I think Don Jazzy had just done, a year ago, two years ago like with the same kind of vibe. But he (AKA) said we need to get someone who is as good for a Jamaican version of something as this. So I was like well, a couple of months ago I met this Nigerian guy, Burna Boy whose an upcoming artist” “He ain’t upcoming no more,” exclaimed MacG.

“That time I just met Burna Boy, through a guy called Asem. I had a song in Ghana with a guy called Asem and DJ Black from Ghana called Show Somthin. They were shooting an advert for Glo, so they come to South Africa to shoot the ad here. So they took Burna Boy from Nigeria and I think Tiwa Savage or something and they took Burna Boy and Asem as the two young guys from Nigeria and Ghana. So they like they had a little relationship together as they were young guys coming up together. So when I went to go see Asem, he was staying in Hyde Park, he was like Im actually chilling with some guy called Burna Boy, so I was like let’s meet the homie.”

JR explains that when he went to the hotel room, he found Asem and Burna Boy sipping on some Hennessy. They later headed to the studio but were unable to record because MI was at the studio and had to leave. JR then goes on to explain that he told AKA about the interaction, who was open to the idea of working with Burna Boy, later beats and guidelines were sent to Burna Boy and the rest is history.
