Another One! KidX The Latest Rapper Open To Joining Amapiano. It seems more SA Hip Hop artists are warming up to the idea of hopping on amapiano beats. The Amapiano genre is currently dominating the South Ah music scene and topping the charts. Despite award-winning rapper, Cassper Nyovest receiving backlash for his switch to amapiano more artists are following suit or expressing interest to do so. Fans and supporters of SA Hip Hop are proud of the culture and want to preserve it and some have not reacted too well to the shift in the genre.
KidX is the latest South Ah rapper to make his comments known on the touchy subject after a fan dared him to jump on an Amapiano beat. The fan was impressed with what KidX cooked up on the track, Jukebox, along with Moozlie. In his response to the fan, KidX made it known that he is open to giving to the people what they want. “If my people want, they will get,” tweeted the rapper. Amapiano artists have gained fame for rapping on the dance genre’s beats. There are questions on what does say this mean for SA Hip Hop.
Amapiano beats have given a platform for artists to be able to show off their rap skills on music that gets the crowds dancing. Artists such as Madumane has even gained fame for rapping on Amapiano beats. Hit producer DJ Maphorisa’s rap alter ego, Madumane’s verse on the track, Izolo, went viral and even placed him as a contender for Verse Of The Year. Rapper AKA who is a fan of Madumane’s verse, recently also expressed that he would jump on an Amapiano song, well that is if the right beat came along. Azania hitmaker Reason is loving riding the Amapiano wave, he has even adopted a new name for the genre, Sizwe Alakine.
Sizwe Alakine recently caught a little heat for appearing on BET Africa’s Amapiano Hip Hop Cypher. Reason appeared on the Cypher along with Yano artists Young Stunna and Buzzi Lee. A critic shared on Twitter, “I don’t mind the fact that @ReasonHD has switched to piano. But to go from being a voice of Hip-Hop and a Rap culture representative to purposely attending a cypher called “Amapiano Hip-Hop Cypher”. Reason didn’t take the criticism lying down and responded to the critic that the cypher would be titled what it was. He also explained him being on the cypher was nothing out of the ordinary. “Honestly, I didn’t know it would be called that. But I also don’t understand why you would want to crucify ME for it being called that. I’m not @MTVBaseSouth, “I did what I’ve always done. Which is to rap on their cyphers. Don’t involve me in anything else. But the quality of rap,” tweeted Reason.
