As South African celebrities prepare for the event, NOTA has emerged as one of the few to condemn the Durban July event. The music mogul resorted to Twitter to bash prominent black people who are preparing for the event, claiming that they are being exploited by white people because they are cheap.

NOTA went on to encourage other black people to attend the event to promote the black-owned businesses that will be exhibited. “The way blacks support Durban July it’s as if they forget that it’s white owned by people who both own & train race horses. They can use these famous blacks for anything because they’re cheap… If you’re there to support the local economy, make sure you’re supporting black owned!” Tweeted NOTA.

NOTA continued in another tweet, making it obvious that he opposes gambling and the upcoming Hollywoodbets Durban July. The music executive continued by emphasizing how important it would be to support black-owned businesses there.

The Dundee July is coming up & it’s the #1 black owned horse racing event in South Africa… Leave white folk to have their event & supported black owned businesses. I’m personally against betting & gambling so I can’t support Hollywood Bets or their competitors. F*ck Durban July!” NOTA tweeted.

The Hollywoodbets Durban July has received a lot of positive feedback despite NOTA‘s opinion of it. Mxolisi Kaunda, the mayor of eThekwini, has expressed excitement about the event and hopes that Durban July will help the tourism industry recover from the effects of COVID-19. “We are excited about the economic spin-offs that this event is going to bring to our city.

“The estimated 35 000 people who will head for Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on Saturday are expected to spend R145 million, with the gross domestic product in economic activity projected to be R362m. “An estimated 740 people will get employment because of this event,” he said as per IOL.
