“There is no song that’s worth his life”- Caiphus Semenya Denies Knocking On AKA’s Grave. Legendary Jazz artist Caiphus Semenya reportedly demanded royalties from AKA‘s management after the slain rapper sampled his songs on his posthumous album Mass Country.
According to the SundayWorld, Semenya allegedly demanded 50% from two jingles AKA sampled on his top-charting album. In a recent interview on Nkululeko n Cultr Podcast, Caiphus Semenya denied claims that he is knocking on AKA’s grave demanding 50% of royalties.
Semenya said that all the negotiations that have to do with his music are done by his music publishers and he has never negotiated a song. “I established Semenya Music when I was 32 years old John Levy helped me to put my publishing together. Since then I have never, not once negotiated a song. The publisher does that, that’s their job,” he said.
The legendary Jazz artist said he empathizes with AKA following such an untimely tragedy, and that he would never demand money. Semenya further stated that no amount of money could buy AKA’s life. Even though he appeared to be angry, he exuded love and Ubuntu.
“He says (SundayWorld Journalist) I knocked on AKA’s grave, I’m not like that, when someone is mourning you sympathize with them. And the way this boy (AKA) died is painful to me and there is no song that’s worth his life. 50%? What’s 50%? Of what? And he didn’t know what song it is, does he know which song it is?” Said an angry Semenya.
Semenya also mentioned that he was not aware of the song that AKA sampled on his Mass Country album. That’s to show the Jazz artist was not aware that AKA has sampled one of his songs again. “I can show you that I asked the administrator that which song are we talking about. So already he said I was asking 50% of what? I was asking which one is it because I didn’t know.“
“He gave people the impression that it was Matswale, Matswale was long fixed, AKA fixed it and there is a picture that I took with him when we were smiling because I admired the boy he was very smart.“
