“We have nothing but ‘Sosh Plata’ to look up to” – Rashid Kay
“We have nothing but Sosh Plata to look up to” – Rashid Kay. With a flurry of SA Hip-hop songs released thus far, Loatinover Pounds‘ Sosh Plata Remix has rocked the airways, becoming a street anthem.
The current status of SA Hip-hop has prompted questions on whether the rap game in Mzansi is on a decline considering a lack of hit songs such as Sosh Plata. Speaking during a Culture Chopp interview with Rashid Kay, Zingah asked whether Loantinover Pounds’ hit song is a good yardstick to use for other rappers to make hit songs.
“Is Sosh Plata a good measure to use for somebody else to say that’s the type of sh*t I should be making to be able to go crazy right now?” Asked Zingah. In response, Rashid said that Sosh Plata is what the game has right now to look up to compared to the other years when the game was spoilt with a slew of crossover hits.
“You know what they say, they say one-eyed man is the King in the land of the blind. So that means, we have nothing but Sosh Plata to look up to,” said Rashid Kay. “The other years, if you have a hit, it’s a hit across all genres, you had your Ngud’ that was the song of the year across all board. You had your Caracara, your Doc Shebeleza you know. Not a hit for a certain group of people, so as SA Hip hop we don’t have a crossover hit nationally,” Rashid added.
The astounding Loatinover Pounds utilized the skills of 25K and Thapelo Ghutra to participate in his hit song “Sosh Plata (Remix).” The track is currently sitting on over 2 Million YouTube views making it one of the most streamed Hip hop songs in 2023.
