Raf Don Hails Youngsta CPT’s ‘3T’ Album As A Game-Changer For Cape Town Hip Hop
Raf Don Hails Youngsta CPT’s ‘3T’ Album As A Game-Changer For Cape Town Hip Hop. Raf Don has lauded Youngsta CPT’s debut album ‘3T’ as a transformative force in the Cape Town hip-hop scene, heralding its impact as a game-changer.
Released in 2019, 3T THINGS TAKE TIME made a massive impact in SA Hip Hop upon its release drawing attention to its innovative sound and socially conscious themes. To mark the 5th anniversary of the album, fellow rapper Raf Don, a peer of Youngsta CPT, shared his jubilation on Twitter (X), lauding the acclaimed Kaapstad artist for crafting a masterpiece that embodies the essence of Cape Town hip hop at its finest. “This album made South Africa & the globe respect Cape Town hip hop #3T anniversary,” wrote Raf Don.
The release of ‘3T’ comes at a pivotal moment for Cape Town’s hip-hop scene, which has long been overshadowed by the dominance of Johannesburg-based artists in the South African music industry. With its bold storytelling and authentic representation of Cape Town’s culture, the album shifted the spotlight back to the city’s vibrant music scene.
Raf Don recently expressed concern about the dominance of SA Hip Hop being centred around Johannesburg. He highlighted that artists outside of Joburg often struggle to receive recognition within the industry. “SA hiphop” in other words means if it’s not Joburg based it doesn’t count,” wrote Raf Don.
However, Cape Town has made significant contributions to rap culture over the years. Vibrant artists like Bravo Le Roux, Dee Koala, Youngsta CPT, Kash CPT, and others have emerged from the city, representing the Cape of Good Hope on a grand scale.
