Cassper: “I always felt like ‘Sim Dope’ was a bite of a song I almost released”
Cassper: “I always felt like ‘Sim Dope’ was a bite of a song I almost released.” AKA and Cassper dished out some of the historical moments in SA Hip Hop until the Supa Mega was murdered in Durban last year.
The rival rappers have gone head to head when it comes to music and most of their heated moments have been well-documented. However, some moments have not been shared with the public which Cassper recently revealed during an interview on L-Tido Podcast.
Speaking on the podcast, Cassper Nyovest expressed a sentiment of familiarity towards AKA’s hit track “Sim Dope,” suggesting that he perceived elements of similarity between it and his unreleased version of the hit song “Tito Mboweni,” which was supposed to be on his debut album.
Delving deeper into his perspective, Cassper hinted at a sense of resonance between the conceptual frameworks of the two songs, indicating a perceived connection that hinted at possible inspiration or influence.
“I always felt like Sim Dope was like a bite of a song that I almost released on my first album and then somehow the camp got my album… I almost signed to Benza and then Sim Dope sounded exactly like a record I was doing and I chopped the song from the album,” Cassper said.
“The funny thing is that, that song was Tito Mboweni, there was another version of Tito Mboweni. Tito Mboweni was on my first album there was another version of it. I always felt like Sim Dope was like a concept of a person like Tito Mboweni. It was that time when Lex Luger was doing that sound,” he added.
As if that is not enough, Cassper also revealed that the chorus on Tito Mboweni was taken from AKA’s freestyle. “The funny thing is that chorus of Tito Mboweni was me biting Kiernan as well. There was this freestyle (BMF Freestyle) that’s where the chorus of Tito Mboweni came from.”
