Taking to X, the renowned Durban rapper shared that one of his main goals for this year is to deliver the best hip-hop project of 2024. With many great hip-hop releases already this year, Zakwe is determined to be among those recognized as the best. “I’m tryna drop the BEST HIP-HOP PROJECT this year,” wrote Zakwe.

The veteran rapper has been passionately advocating for revitalizing South African Hip-hop, emphasizing the need to make the genre exciting and engaging once more.

He has suggested that reigniting the spirit of competition through beef and rivalries could be a powerful strategy to bring the game back to its former glory, sparking creativity and drawing more attention to the scene.

“I feel like what can resurrect hip-hop in South Africa again is to have beefs, to keep the fire blazing in the genre. We all know the story of Biggie and 2 Pac and our generation is witnessing one  of the biggest and best beefs between Drake and Kendrick Lamar, all the attention is on them.” he said.

“Big Zulu did it when he released his 100 bars single and it sparked a lot within hip-hop, it happened between AKA and Cassper Nyovest and they were at their peak, hence I feel we need beefs to keep the genre alive.

With his new album confirmed to be in the works, it will be intriguing to see if he includes any diss tracks, putting his suggestions into practice. This could not only add a fresh edge to his music but also test how much it stirs up conversation within the South African rap scene, potentially reigniting interest and debate.
