The SneAKA 2.0 builds upon the success of the original SneAKA collaboration in 2019, which was a resounding initiative among fans and sneaker enthusiasts alike. The new design incorporates elements that pay homage to AKA’s unique style and artistic vision replacing the famous Union Jack with a South African flag.

AKA was a lover of white sneakers and Reebok has taken that step to create a bold silky white sneaker in honour of the rapper. “He always wanna push the envelope without losing the accent of an icon,” said Reebok Product Director Tim Bistols as he revealed the SneAKA2.0.

The concept of SneAKA2.0 had been in the works even before AKA’s untimely passing. It all began when the late rapper expressed his frustrations in a social media outburst, aiming at Reebok over royalty disputes. Fortunately, after some dialogue between the two parties, they reached an understanding that paved the way for the launch of SneAKA2.0.

“When he (AKA) voiced this desire I initially thought it a big ask, I dont think another national flag has ever knocked the Union Jack for classic leather,” said PJ Morilly Reebok’s Brand Director. “We started talking about the potential of SneAKA2.0 with the understanding that it’s not for profit. With the personality he had, he would’ve insisted that we donated all of the profits,” he added.

Amidst the buzz surrounding the upcoming release of the Reebok sneaker, AKA’s parents emphasized that their goal is for Kairo, AKA’s daughter, to reflect on her father’s legacy and appreciate the tribute he received for all he contributed to South Africa.

“I know for a fact that Kiernan was okay with Reebok by the time we lost him. As long as we take this on board and make it a real celebration of Kiernan. It’s something that Kairo can look back on in years to come and say wow what a beautiful tribute, what a beautiful celebration of my dad,” Lynn Forbes said.

Tony Forbes, the late rapper’s father, reflected on AKA’s profound influence, highlighting how his sneaker line symbolizes the superstar’s legacy and the impact he had on others. “Let’s stick to who Kiernan was, it is an example to others that it’s possible. I can have my own shoe, I can have my own song and be a superstar. A big part of his legacy, is a legacy of inspiration, really this moment is about celebrating him and Reebok wanting to celebrate him,” said Tony Forbes.
