Watch: Da Les Celebrates Daughter’s Birthday While Recovering From Stroke. Renowned rapper Da Les, known for his impactful contributions to the hip-hop scene, recently celebrated a significant milestone in his personal life: the birthday of his beloved daughter, Mataya. The occasion was particularly poignant, as it comes during his ongoing recovery from a stroke that he suffered earlier this year.
In a touching moment captured on video shared by Zimoja, South African rapper Da Les is shown sitting in a wheelchair beside his daughter, Mataya, as his family gathers to sing her a heartfelt birthday song. The scene reveals not only Da Les’ resilience following his recent health battles but also the close family bonds supporting him through recovery.
Surrounded by loved ones, he shares this special milestone with his daughter, celebrating her birthday despite the challenges, with warmth and gratitude at the core of the gathering.
After a challenging month-long hospital stay following a stroke, South African rapper Da Les, born Leslie Jonathan Mampe Jr., was discharged and is recovering at home. His family requested this transition to offer him personalized care and shield him from media intrusion.
Undergoing rehabilitation, Da Les is steadily improving; he’s working on regaining mobility and speech, supported by his close family, including his mother, who travelled from the U.S. for his recovery. His team plans to share further updates as he progresses.
“He is starting to show improvement, thanks to the rehab programme. He is now learning to walk too. He’s aware of what’s happening and he is determined to get back on his feet. He is showing major improvement since he started rehab,” a source told Zimoja.
