“Gatekeeping exclusives and songs is healthy for the industry,” Zan-D explained, voicing his concerns over the growing trend of DJs simply copying one another. According to him, the lack of originality has become an issue as many DJs follow the same styles, transitions, and even playlists.
“That’s because many DJs are lazy and they copy other people’s DJ styles, transitions and even their playlists,” he added, pointing to a trend that he believes undermines the authenticity of DJing. The DJ further emphasized the importance of protecting unique music and sets in a way that ensures the scene doesn’t become stagnant. “Now imagine if everybody played the same sets. Oh sorry, you actually don’t have to imagine that,” he quipped, reminding fans that the repetitiveness is already present.
One thing is certain: DJ Zan-D’s opinion is resonating with fans and DJs alike, urging the industry to stay fresh and competitive by preserving a unique and diverse sound.
In another post, Zan-D asserted that he is one of the few DJs still playing unique songs and remixes—ones that no one else has the privilege of spinning. He confessed that when others ask him for the names of these exclusive tracks, he deliberately refuses to share, preferring to keep the exclusives in his arsenal. “Every time somebody asks the title, I mize,” he said, suggesting that preserving originality is essential to his artistry.
