The clip, which showcases Nasty C’s rapid-fire delivery, features the rapper flaunting his tattoos and his unique rapping style—attributes that Nota believes are emblematic of a problematic trend among local artists.

“We’re now at the ‘did no jail time but cosplays an MS-13 gangster with prison tattoos’ stage,” Nota wrote, making his opinion loud and clear to his followers. The critique centres on Nasty C’s image, with Nota taking issue with the way the rapper chooses to present himself, notably his choice to showcase tattoos without covering his upper body in the video.

Nota continued, “Still won’t make it as an American Wannabe Like That,” suggesting that despite Nasty C’s fame and international reach, his attempt to project a tougher image, akin to that of US-based gangs, does not resonate authentically in the South African context. He then added, “and all of Zululand is thinking, he’s NOT like us.”

In typical Nota fashion, the outspoken figure didn’t hold back, calling on South Africans to remember their roots and identity in the face of what he perceives as a misstep by the “Hell Naw” hitmaker.

“NOTA we trust!” he concluded, reaffirming his loyalty to the values he believes should be upheld in local hip-hop and calling out what he sees as a trend of “American wannabe” behaviour among local artists.

The comments come at a time when Nasty C has been making waves both locally and internationally, as his influence continues to grow. The rapper’s freestyle video was widely praised for showcasing his lyrical prowess, but it appears that Nota’s sharp critique has struck a chord with some South African hip-hop fans, sparking a conversation about authenticity in the local music scene.
