South African hip-hop icon Cassper Nyovest has shared some powerful thoughts on the role of education in achieving success, challenging the popular narrative that dropping out of school is a shortcut to wealth.
In candid remarks, Cassper emphasised the undeniable value of education. “We need education, one way or another,” he said. Reflecting on his journey, he acknowledged that while he and many others learned from the “school of life” and built thriving businesses, the foundation of those successes also relies heavily on educated individuals. “I have got a lot of people who went to school who work for me. Without those people, my companies cannot be what they are,” Cassper explained.
He went on to confront the glamorised myth of the billionaire dropout. “I don’t think that you need to drop out of school to be a billionaire. There are a lot of educated billionaires. The story that we keep hearing about people dropping out of school to become billionaires is not evidence for people to drop out of school,” he said firmly on his Twitch stream.
Yet, Cassper balanced his respect for formal education with a spirited encouragement to chase dreams relentlessly. “I’m a big believer in actually going out for your dreams,” he said, underscoring the power of faith in his journey. “Anything is possible through the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. If you believe in prayer, faith is currency—that’s what I believe.”
